End of June

Really, nothing extraordinary has happened since my last entry.

My class finished up and I passed. I am now capable of beating someone up effectively. That is a reassuring thought. Brian likes the idea that I can take care of myself while he is gone. The simulation day was probably the most nerve wracking experience I've ever had in a class. There were three scenarios during which two very large men tried to grab me and hold me down. Not so much fun!

Since I got credit for the course I was able to email the financial aid director and ask for my scholarships back. I hope they do give them back to me. I am afraid that because the same thing happened last year that they will tell me I need to stop sucking at paying attention to the rules and just take out loans for this year.

Wedding plans are moving along slowly. Brian is gone most of the week so planning together only happens during the weekend. A few weekends ago I went dress shopping with Meghan and Linz. It was more to find bridemaid dresses than to find a dress for me but that didn't prevent me from trying them on. I found one for me that I like. I have read that when a woman is picking out her wedding dress she just knows which one is "the one". I liked that one that I found but there were no sparks. I have about 4 more places to look before I make a decision so I have plenty of choices left. Brian and I worked on our guest list and weeded it down to almost the correct number of people. My friends have told me that is the most difficult part of the planning process. I'm glad its (almost) over.

I'm trying to figure out if I want live music during the ceremony or not. I want something more traditional for the processional down the aisle but want something fun and more contemporary during the recessional. I could get away with no musicians but I don't know. Any suggestions?

My family is on vacation so I'm spending the 4th with Brian, my brothers and my sister-in-law at my Grandparent's house. It should be a good time. I hope it doesn't rain.

What did I do?

I woke up this morning and was almost too stiff to move. All I could think was, "What did I do yesterday that caused me to be so sore?"

Oh yeah, I beat up 2 200 lb men for my self defense class.

That would be why.

May and June

The rest of May flew by! It is really hard to believe that it is already the first week of June.

Brian and I started planning the wedding right away. Our goal is to finish the vast majority of the planning before we start school at the end of August. Neither of us will have a ton of free time during school. We have a church (South Grandville CRC), reception site (Wave room at Celebration Cinema North), colors (green and pale yellow), a theme (antique- like my ring), an initial concept for the invitations, a videographer, possibly a florist, all of our bridal party chosen and asked, along with collecting miscellanious items and making decisions.

Brian got a different job with the same company which requires him to be in Brighton 4 days per week instead of one. As you can imagine, it hasn't been the easiest thing to adjust to.  We've been apart before but it just makes it that much harder to plan a wedding when we only talk for 10-15 minutes each day. Don't take me wrong, I'm very grateful for this job. This job is paying for our honeymoon as well as possibly providing us with the funds to own a home shortly after graduation. That's not a bad thing.

My birthday was on Tuesday and got to spend a lot of time celebrating it with my friends. We had Girl's Night Out last night. That was a blast! I never get to spend time with all my girlfriends in one place. I think we should do it again soon.

My best friend from high school got married last weekend. I was the maid of honor in her wedding. That was intense! I never stopped moving from Friday afternoon to late Saturday night when Brian and I drove home. The wedding was beautiful, as was Andi. It makes me that much more excited for my own wedding. I am pleased to say that I didn't cry during the ceremony, even though I got really close.

My brother's wedding is coming up in a few weeks. That is the last wedding that I am in until my own. I'm looking forward to having time to plan my own. I'm so excited for that wedding! I finally get the big sister I always wanted.

So guess what...

I'm engaged!

I had planned a surprise party for Brian's birthday and invited all of our friends. We walked in tonight and everyone shouted "Happy Birthday!" which made me smile. As we were standing in the doorway, Brian turned to me and asked, "What would you say if I told you that I knew about this surprise for a long time." "What?!" was my only thought. He then said, "What if I told you that I planned this whole thing?" "What?!" again from me. "What if.... (gets down on one knee)... I asked you to marry me?" At this point he had pulled out the ring and was waiting for my answer. I had nothing other than "Gasp!" and "Yes!!!"

It was a good surprise.

This is what the ring looks like. It was my Great Grandma Steenstra's ring. Apparently he got it from my Grandparents before I got back from Mexico and Brian asked my parent's permission back in December. Smile.

It's Brian's Birthday!

It's Brian's birthday today and for some reason, I feel like it's my birthday too. Not really but kind of.

As far as I am concerned, I should play outside during lunch every day instead of reading in the office.

Reading in the office = Lame

Running around Grand Rapids for an hour = Fantastic fun

I have had jobs that pay better but location is everything. I am across the river from Urban Mill, down the road from several parks, across the street from the GVSU downtown campus, and within walking distance to many of my favorite places in the city. I like to frolic and enjoy the sunshine. This will be a good summer. I can feel it.
